Purchaser

About the Role:

The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing and purchasing the metals, supplies, consumables, hardware, and other materials needed to keep our fabrication operations running smoothly. This role requires strong attention to detail while working under time pressure, the ability to work with multiple vendors, and a focus on securing the best value while maintaining quality and delivery requirements. This is a new position at MFAB so willingess and ability to help create an efficient, transparent, and value adding purchasing system will be critical to the role!

Key Responsibilities:

• Source and purchase raw materials (steel, aluminum, etc.), shop consumables, hardware, tools, and general supplies.
• Issue purchase orders, confirm lead times, and track deliveries.
• Maintain vendor relationships, request quotes, and negotiate pricing.
• Monitor inventory levels and proactively reorder to avoid shortages.
• Work closely with Operations Leadership to support project schedules.
• Ensure all purchases meet company standards for quality, price, and timeliness.
• Keep accurate purchasing records, pricing history, and supplier files.
• Coordinate with accounting to ensure accurate job costing and expense allocation.
• Identify opportunities to consolidate purchasing or negotiate better terms.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain (manufacturing or construction preferred).
• Knowledge of metals, hardware, and industrial supplies strongly preferred.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Comfortable working with purchasing software and Microsoft Office/Outlook.
• Detail-oriented and organized; able to juggle multiple requests simultaneously.
