Under the general supervision of the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) in the Firearms Applicant and Release Unit, the Crime Analyst I (CA I) in the Law Enforcement Release (LER) Team will analyze criminal history and other firearms eligibility related records to determine the eligibility of persons to own or possess firearms, respond to requests from firearms applicants, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies for information on various firearms issues or laws; provide Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance letters for Law Enforcement Release (LER) applicants. These functions involve inquiries into various database systems, the request and review of various files, and contact with other entities to verify any firearms prohibiting records. The CA I must have a thorough knowledge of California statutory code sections, the criminal justice system, and the laws and regulations governing eligibility to purchase/possess firearms in California.
